Maui Mini Pin Meet
'Iao Valley State Park
August 4th, 2002
Our First Pin Event in the State of Hawaii turned out to be:
Simply the BEST!!!

Bernice (JazERed)
talking story with LaDonna and our younger pin trader D.J. in the middle.
Notice our new banner, donated to us from Susan!
We had over 35 in attendance, with 23 being pin traders. All were greeted
with a dizneypins lanyard tag and a dizneypins Magical Moments Meet pin.
Big smiles and many mahalos (thank you) by all, and they loved the
different languages on the back of the tags. One standard joke was : Hey,
we need to add Hawaiian!" Each trader signed in and was given also a name
tag with stickers and numbers at the bottom corner. This was for winning
gifts later in the day. We also had a box "you put in a pin and you win a
pin". So everyone walked away with a mystery trade pin in a way! Hidden
from view, no one knew what they would pull out. Those who travel so far
each won a special gift. Diana and Michael came from California!

Michael
Kapson (mk) and Diana Delker (1TiggerNut)our pin guests fromCalifornia.
What could you have for a pin trader who arrived with a suitcase so extra
large it reach his waist full of pins to trade. His clothes were in a
little back pack <lo>Michael received the magnifying glass and was very
pleased! Diana picked out the special dizneypins Pin Extraordinaire pin
with a big smile across her face! Ann (MsGender) and her husband flew
over from Laie, Oahu, and Valerie flew in from Kailua with Bethanie from
Kaneohe, both from the island of Oahu. Gloria and her husband flew in from
Norwalk, California. Each one received special lanyards and gold rubber
backs and special pins from Larry. We had so much food (chock local ono
grinds) not a single pin trader was eating!!! They lived on pins for the
next 4 hours. The family members (all the non-pin type) and the children
were very happy to have all that food available to them, especially the
men!! :) The children enjoyed games : ring toss, bean bag game, and lots
of bubbles, small gift bags to color....all won special gifts from a
Treasure Chest. Bernice (JazEred) and her daughter Jasmine helped all the
children with the games, and kept those little ones smiling. Danelle
(daughter Kassidy is the pin trader~only 2 years old) and Terran helped
out in a Goofy Gone Fishin' game, which was going to be just for children,
each child answered a simple question and won a grab bag fish!!

Danelle managed to snag a few adult fishermen, and they could not answer
the simple Disney questions, they were very picky about their catch too!!<lol>
Susan had a beautiful banner made up to Welcome everyone....it did, many
drifted in who were more than curious as to what in the world was going
on. Husbands soon became security guards for tables left heavily laden
down with tons of pins, as the owners were over at another table in a pin
feeding frenzy.

Diana had graciously taken the time to bring with her every rack pin
available at Disneyland for every one to purchase at no profit to her!!
This was unbelievable to watch from the side lines!!!! This may be
paradise, but you could tell we had pin starvation going on here in the
islands. With only Disney store pins to pick from. It of course of a big
hit. Disney Trivia games were played! The hardest being a abbreviation
game, and the winner won a very special Cruise Line pin from Larry. (NO
ONE had ever seen this pin before) Everyone who normally would not play,
was taking a stab at this game. If you watched, the cell phones were being
used, and many were going from person to person for help!!! It was a blast
to watch that. Collaboration was a strong point here, aren't pin traders a
great sharing bunch...and no way could that one pin be spilt in half....so
each were trying to help out their friends win this one! Even the easy
Disney Trivia game was so funny. I thought it was going to be just for
children. Joyce received a prize for scoring the worst in the contest. No
one really knew Dopey had blue eyes, you should have seen everyone going
though the pin bags trying to see what dwarf out of the seven had blue
eyes. Looking in their Tomart's Books, coming over to the prize table,
checking out the Snow White lithographs.....so very funny. We had
constellation prizes of pins for everyone who never won any of the games.
Each walked away with a Disney pin and a Disney Lithograph set. Jan our
Disney Store Manager was there, with her donations for the pin meet.
Notice all those Mickey bags everywhere. Jan had her first pin trade.

Our
Disney Store Manager Jan just got her first trade, and she is now
Hooked!!!!
Someone gave her a pin, and she went and traded, and came back with a
special pin, the other person had always wanted. :) Terran (11 years old)
and Samuel (2 years old) did a great trade. Little Samuel scanned Terran's
lanyard, and said: That one! His daddy helped him with the pin, he had a
wonderful smile and lit up eyes. Terran was so happy this was his first
trade also. I do know everyone got new pins....and everyone did trades!!!!
Received gifts and walked away happy!!!! I know there was a lot of heavy
serious trading going on. Why....we had a GOLD JAIL SCENE there and many
MAP PINS!!! Dan did get that Jail Scene and Ann got a map set. I
personally was hosting so I did not get in on most of the trades to share
with you. None of us had ever seen that Jail Scene in person....what a
great pin!!! I think it is now everyone's new Holy Grail pin. :)

Shari
with Valarie and Bethanie both our off island guests from
Oahu....check out those pins!! No wonder they are smiling!!!!!! |

We want to thank Larry so much for
all his help, and our first pin meet would never had been just a hit
without all those great gifts! Mahalo Nui Loa Larry!!! I also had special
pins from Larry to hand out to all who worked so hard to help me! Di
surprised us with special CM pins for each who helped in making this pin
meet happen also. There is so much to share and I know I am forgetting
things. I do know each went away with a smile and memories, and all asking
when can we do this again. Oh yes, I do believe our Disney Store Manager
Jan is hooked......and Dan who was only a collector before, was just
looking for those trades!!!! David and Marci, Joyce and Shari, Gloria and
Bernice with Di and Michael rarely did we see those any faces!!!! They
were buried in pin bags! I do have one to share with you. This included
me, since I really did not have time to look,or trade with anyone. We had
just dropped off 2 of our off island guests at the airport. My husband is
doing something while at the wheel, I had to help of course or have
security pull us over. Horns were honking....unusual for Maui, locals to
not honk horns. Considered a no, no...like pointing a finger, we must use
a full hand. So funny.......he was putting on a pin, and I did not even
know it......I am steering for him, while he drives, getting more irate by
the moment. Being we had been up since 4 am that was easy to do! <lol> We
are finally home, I am getting out of the car, he is starting to unload
all the goodies to bring in. I let out a scream......he is wearing a
pin!!!! Not just any pin, the only pin I managed to see in a pin bag I
really wanted. It was the CM Disneyland Ticket green Pin with the A-E
tickets....there it was on his shirt. A surprise gift from Diana, that was
my one of my Holy Grail pins. This was a wonderful surprise, and I am not
complaining really, but next time, I want my head buried in those pin
bags, checking out all those pins!

One tired
trader, and what we all did the moment we got home!

We had a very good
turnout today. 49
out of the 60 or so
traders that RVSPed
showed up. Many
trades were being
made by friends old
and new. It was
good to see a few
familiar faces, but
also a few new ones.
We had three
pintraders travel
from Angola, Indiana
for the meet, that's
an approximate drive
of two and a half
hours. The pin meet
took place from 9:00
AM until about 12:00
noon.

Pins and Dizneypins
logo merchandise
were given away for
the first correct
answer to each
question. We had
thirteen lucky
winners. Each
family received the
new Dizneypins pin
meet logo pin. A
lot of oohs and aahs
over that wonderful
pin.
All in all a
wonderful time was
had by all and
interest in doing
this more often was
voiced by many.

Thank you Dizneypins
for adding such fun
to the meet with all
the great pins and
pin accessories.

57 People Attended
People came from all over and had a wonderful
time. The head count was 57 traders. For the pin swap we had 25 people in the
LE, 25 in the rack and 25 in the store. Thanks to DizneyPins.com we had many
handouts. Lanyard tags were handed to people as they signed in. Pins were given
to all the children who attended, then everyone had a
chance to win something by answering a trivia Question. The answers were
pulled from a bag, and pins, lanyards, pin backs, A magnifying glass and a 2000
Cast member Holiday pin set was given out. Everyone seemed to enjoy and
people said they did more trading there, then they have done in a while.

What a day. the weather was perfect, the pin trading
fantastic, the food games and prizes for everyone! We shared some Disney
Scrapbooks, talked about our DVC memberships and even got my DH to hang
out for most of the day (after he threatened to play 2 rounds of golf to
be gone for the day!!!!)
We had lots of local Central PA Disney fans, Mike and Kelly traveling all
the way from Rochester NY, Diane and her family coming all the way from
Virginia, Kelly from State College, Sean from Maryland, Daber and his
darling wife from South East Pa. and many many more!
The largest groups of traders filtered out around 8:30pm. Jen (wdwfan)
hung out till about 11am. (to help tear down the tent and finish that
pitcher of margaritas!!)
today I need to go back through my pin books! I know I made some great
trades--I just cant remember them this morning!!
A huge thank you to Larry and Dizneypins.com for the great prizes!!!

We had 13 people. The first person
arrived just before 11a and the last to leave was about 7p. Gary and Dora
drove the furthest -- 2.5 hours from Sheboygan WI !!! We awarded a
Dizneypins lanyard for the furthest drive and all were awarded pins for
showing up and continuing the pin tradition. The Dizneypins.com Happy Pin
Dance pin along with many other sponsor pins were given to those who
attended.
You can see Stitch was overseeing the pin trading going on in his human
form as opposed to his true Alien nature.

Success of the 1st Disneypins Meet in NJ!!
I found out a couple of weeks ago that I had a Sunday off and decided to
throw a meet together in 2 1/2 weeks. I contacted Dizneypins.com (Larry)
about sponsoring the meet, you know Larry, sure I can do that! I was
extremely surprised when the package arrived and I opened it to find lots
of goodies. Not only did he send me Dizneypins.com pins, but lanyard tags
that say Cherry Hill on them and items I could use for any kind of contest
I could come up with. Well I think it turned out GREAT! We started at
about 11:30 in the morning and it finally broke about 4:30 in the
afternoon. Those in attendance:

for TRIVIA!!! We had a lot of fun playing and prizes were awarded to
winners. We got back to doing some trading and the next thing I know they
are passing slices of a Black Forest cake around that Betsy & Barb
brought, it was soo good! Well more trades were made and before long it
was time to say our good-byes. Betsy and Barb did it again and gave
everyone a candle as a gift. You 2 ladies are wonderful!! A Great time was
had by all. I really enjoyed meeting some new traders in my area and
hopefully we'll see some new members here or on other boards. Thank you to
