Epcot creates new World Showcase greeting areas for characters
 

Themed indoor locations are giving Epcot guests reliable, colorful ways to meet Disney characters in World Showcase.
"The concept for these locations uses a 'library' theme to introduce and tie-in Disney characters' stories to their countries of origin," said Darlene Neudecker, team leader at Epcot Entertainment. "The concept was first tested at Morocco with Aladdin characters in 2001. Guests enjoyed it so much, we've expanded the concept into other World Showcase countries."

The library locations use props, art and design concepts that blend the particular film's storyline with the pavilion's architecture and cultural influences.

The Aladdin characters, for example, appear in a room across from Restaurant Marrakesh. Carpets, palm trees and a painted backdrop of the city of Agrabah are part of that location's decor.

Characters from Beauty and the Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame appear in a small library at Plume et Palette in France. The location includes stained glass windows depicting the Beast's castle and a rose, similar to the stained glass window used to set up the story in the film Beauty and the Beast.

Mary Poppins and Winnie the Pooh characters appear in a bright, colorfully painted room at The Crown & Crest at the United Kingdom.

"Indoor locations provide scenic, climate-controlled areas for our guests to meet and photograph their favorite storybook characters," Darlene said. "We can have continuous character coverage at all our indoor locations."

Mickey, Donald, Other Disney Characters To Appear in 3-D in New Magic Kingdom Attraction
 Disney magic meets Disney music in a new 3-D film spectacular debuting in 2003 at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort.
“Mickey’s PhilharMagic” will star Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and other favorite Disney characters animated in a way they’ve never before been seen: grand, glorious, in-your-face three dimensions.

“We’re really excited about this new attraction,” said Al Weiss, president of Walt Disney World Resort. “Guests love the Disney characters and films, and this gives them the chance to take a magical ride right into the world of Disney animation.”

The “Mickey’s PhilharMagic” cast will include Mickey and Donald, as well as Ariel from “The Little Mermaid,” Aladdin and Jasmine from “Aladdin” and Simba from “The Lion King.”

Set in the PhilharMagic Concert Hall, which replaces “Legend of the Lion King” in Fantasyland, the eye-popping 3-D experience will unfold on one of the largest screens ever created for a 3-D film, a 150-foot-wide canvas. Complete with in-theater effects, the attraction will immerse guests in the richly animated world of the Disney characters.

The Walt Disney Company has experimented with animating the Disney characters in 3-D before, most notably in “Working for Peanuts,” a 1953 Donald Duck/Chip 'n' Dale cartoon short, but never on a scale as grand as “Mickey’s PhilharMagic.” The attraction is being produced through the combined efforts of Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney Feature Animation.

“We’re always exploring ways to take 3-D to the next level,” said Tom Fitzgerald, executive vice president and senior creative executive at Walt Disney Imagineering. “From ‘Jim Henson’s Muppet*Vision 3D’ to ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Audience’ to ‘It’s Tough to be a Bug!’ we keep looking for new ways to allow guests to become a part of the action and story. “

Mickey's Superstar Trading Team
Walt Disney World should soon be announcing these fun and exciting pin events for 2003. But until then we will tell you what we know.

In 2003 you will be able to have a few other pin trading experiences. These will be called "Mickey's Superstar Trading Team". We are told these will be a free event which will focus on pin trading and at these happening's you could see 4 or 5 pins being released. All of these events will be held at WDW Resorts so no admission is required to join in on the fun.
