Wonder How a "Build a Pin" Is Done?
First you find a pin base you like, this base will have 1,2 3 holes in it where you can place the add-on pins, then pick out the add-on pins you wish to have on your base pin. It is then taken to a machine where the CM's will put your add-on pin permanently onto the base pins. Most bases are $6.50 and add on pins are $2. Below you will see a diagram of how this is done, a picture of the machine and some samples of just a few of the base and add-on pins. Some of the bases like the fireworks with add-on pin Cinderella shown below can also be engraved.

The Country Bears Take Their Show Into Theaters

From left to right, Henry, Fred, Beary, Ted, Tennessee, Trixie and Zeb
perform live at Country Bear Hall, the place where the Country Bears got their musical start.

Eleven-year-old Beary Barrington has never quite fit in with his parents or his brother, and is in search of more folks like himself and his higher purpose in life. Beary strikes out on his own to reunite his favorite band, the Country Bears — Ted Bedderhead, Fred Bedderhead, Zeb Zoober and Tennessee O’Neal — for a benefit concert to save Country Bear Hall, the legendary venue where the band got its start. Featuring musical performances and appearances by real-life musical legends Don Henley, John Hiatt, Elton John, Queen Latifah, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt and Brian Setzer, The Country Bears, in theaters today, is about learning how the people who love you, no matter what, are your family.

“The movie is essentially a family comedy, a road picture and a musical . . . with bears,” summed up Producer Andrew Gunn.

More than 75 million people have seen The Country Bear Jamboree, one of the best-loved attractions at Disney theme parks around the world. “So, the film The Country Bears is basically taking the characters from the park, putting them in a fast vehicle and going hard left,” laughed Director Peter Hastings.

Concept drawings for the characters in The Country Bear Jamboree were originally done in the 1960s by long-time Studio animator and Disney Legend Marc Davis, for the lobby of a ski resort that Walt Disney planned to build in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Although the ski resort was never built, the ideas from Marc’s sketches eventually became The Country Bear Jamboree at Walt Disney World in 1971. The characters were so popular with visitors that similar attractions were built in Disney’s other parks.

Brigham Taylor, vice president, Production, knew Hastings from his animation work at the Studio and felt that with his animation and music backgrounds, he would be the perfect match for this kid-at-heart family fare.

“When I got involved with the project,” said Hastings, “the big challenge was how to take a novelty Audio-Animatronics® show and turn that into an entertaining film. “I wanted to make something that plays to a lot of different ages. Music is really a wonderful thing, because it is a little less age-specific than a lot of other types of entertainment.”

The filmmakers developed the look of the bears with the crew from The Henson Creature Shop. Each of the eight bears had to have a distinctive look so the audience could easily differentiate the characters on screen. “Henson is known for concentrating on story and character when building a puppet. So we purposely gave each bear details of their distinct personality — a signature outfit, different colors of fur and eyes, and we varied their sizes and shapes,” explained Producer Jeffrey Chernov.

An army of interdisciplinary sculptors, mold makers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, costume designers and artists-for-which-there-are-no-names built each character. The faces were sculpted and little motors were attached to the features. Artisans laid latex and fur over the superstructures — each strand of hair was hand-punched into the latex. Approximately 30 high-torque servo-motors, like those used in model airplanes, were mounted inside each head to control the muscles of the face and the articulated movement of each feature — eyes, eyebrows, mouth, tongue, lips and ears — giving each bear a full range of expressions. A computerized system links these motors to individual controls that the puppeteer operates.

Shooting The Country Bears presented challenges to the Henson crew — the Henson-created bears are the stars of the film, instead of being incidental, supporting characters, and the story requires the bears to shoot on location, away from the controlled environment of a sound stage.

“Taking the characters outside a studio required considerable logistical support,” said Chernov. “It was quite an ordeal to take them on the road — I think we had three, 18-wheeler transport trucks to carry their gear, two cast trailers for personnel and a Henson crew approaching 20 people to support the bears.”

“It was truly like traveling with a rock concert,” laughed Gunn.

Walt Disney Pictures’ The Country Bears, rated ‘G,’ was written by Mark Perez, based on Walt Disney’s Country Bear Jamboree. Buena Vista Pictures distributes.

Disney boat breaks record in 535-kilometer Race to Mackinac

MACKINAC ISLAND, Michigan - Roy Disney's 75-foot (22.5-meter) Pyewacket won the annual Race to Mackinac, sailing the 333 miles (535 kilometers) across Lake Michigan in 23 hours and 30 minutes, breaking the mono-hull record by more than two hours.
Disney, vice chairman of The Walt Disney Co., is the nephew of the entertainment company's founder and namesake. Last month, his boat broke the record in the annual 635-mile (1,022- kilometer) race from Newport, Rhode Island, to Bermuda.

About 3,000 sailors and more than 300 boats took part in the 96th running of the Race to Mackinac, which began on Lake Michigan near Chicago on Saturday. The route heads north into the edge of Lake Huron and ends at Mackinac Island. It takes most boats between 40 and 60 hours to complete the course.

The Pyewacket finished the race Sunday afternoon, just before thunderstorms came through with gusting winds, forcing at least 16 to drop out.

Rock star Bob Seger said this year's Race to Mackinac was scary because of severe storms that forced at least 16 boats to drop out of the 333-mile contest from Chicago to Mackinac Island
