100 Millionth FASTPASS Ticket

Walt Disney World Resort today celebrated distribution of the 100 millionth FASTPASS ticket -– the revolutionary, skip-the-line innovation that has changed the way people visit theme parks.

Walt Disney World guests had reason to celebrate the FASTPASS milestone, too, because those 100 million FASTPASS tickets have allowed them to avoid 60 million hours of standing in line -– and apply that time to other theme park fun.

To commemorate the occasion, Mary Dillon of Atlanta, Ga., was the surprise recipient of a Golden FASTPASS that provided her and her family with FASTPASS entry to all 23 attractions currently offering the time-saving innovation in the four Walt Disney World theme parks. Mrs. Dillon was visiting Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World Resort with her husband, Mike, and their three children: Claire, 10; Tess, 7; and Olivia, 4.


The milestone celebration began as Mary obtained a Disney's FASTPASS at the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith attraction. That set off music and a shower of silver streamers. Walt Disney World President Al Weiss presented Mrs. Dillon with the Golden FASTPASS. As part of the surprise, the family was also presented commemorative jackets and was provided with a personal Disney Tour Guide to whisk them to favorite attractions and shows in the Disney theme parks.

Disney's Polynesian Resort debuts new dinner show on Feb. 19
 

Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show, the new nighttime dining and entertainment experience at Disney's Polynesian Resort, will debut on Feb. 19.
The new show will showcase many of the cultural dances from the original Polynesian Luau, as well as include new songs and music. The show will tell a story in which family and friends celebrate the homecoming of island girl Leilani.

From Feb. 19-22, the show will take place at 5:15 p.m. Starting Feb. 25, shows will take place Tuesdays through Saturdays at 5:15 and 8 p.m.

Adult tickets to the show will cost $49.01. Tickets for children ages of 3-11 will cost $24.81. Cast Members get a 50 percent discount at the Feb. 19-22 shows.

Meredith Willson's The Music Man

Starring Matthew Broderick, Kristin Chenoweth, Victor Garber, Debra Monk, Molly Shannon, David Aaron Baker and Cameron Monaghan.

The rollicking musical follows the escapades of the charming, fast-talking rogue, Professor Harold Hill (Broderick), who waltzes into River City, Iowa, mesmerizing its citizens with the need for a boys' marching band to keep their children on the path of moral righteousness. Hill cons the parents into buying his expensive instruments and uniforms, convincing them that his revolutionary music training program, "The Think System," will turn their youngsters into virtuoso performers. But not all the townspeople are excited by Hill's scheme, especially Marian Paroo (Chenoweth), the beautiful but willful local librarian and piano teacher who has caught Prof. Hill's eye. Hill's plans go awry when his deepening feelings for Marian and his attempts to scam the stubborn small town citizens run to cross-purposes. Chaos ensues when Hill is about to be uncovered for the scoundrel he is and he's forced to prove himself to the River City citizens and Marian.

The All-American family musical's sparkling score is highlighted by classic hits such as "Trouble," "76 Trombones," "'Til There Was You" and "Gary, Indiana." The original Broadway production of "Meredith Willson's The Music Man" opened on Broadway in 1957 and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, winning six, including Best Musical.

The film is directed by Jeff Bleckner from the teleplay based on the original Broadway musical, with book, music and lyrics by Meredith Willson and original story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. Kathleen Marshall is the choreographer. Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are the executive producers.

Bidders Vie For Mickey Made Of Gold
PITTSFIELD, Ma. -- In what is believed to be the largest non-real estate auction transaction in the county's history, a anonymous buyer paid $690,000 on Saturday for a solid-gold statue of Mickey Mouse at Fontaine's Antiques and Auction Gallery on West Housatonic Street in Pittsfield, Ma..

The statue, which stands two feet tall, weighs about 100 pounds. The one-of-a-kind cast was made in 2001 by the Great Western Mint to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Walt Disney, said Garrett Johnson, an auctioneer who is associated with the gallery.

Johnson declined to identify either the seller or the buyer of the statue, which was kept under armed guard.

"It's a dangerous item just to have around," said Johnson, who observed that unlike most other items in an auction sale, the 24-carat gold statue could be converted into cash -- a lot of it -- fairly easily.

Johnson said bidding on the statue was brisk.

"Sometimes, we have a really long bidding process, which is fun, but this bidding went quickly," he said. Johnson wouldn't say whether the buyer bid in person or by telephone. The price includes a 15 percent buyer's premium.

The statue's presence at Saturday's auction was widely advertised in the trade press in this country and in the United Kingdom, said Johnson. He said visitors to the gallery were drawn to the statue.

"People were having their pictures taken with it," he said.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently announced the nominees for the 75th annual Academy Awards.
